Description

Crispy baked sweet potato fries served with a creamy, smoky chipotle lime dipping sauce. This easy side dish combines the natural sweetness of yams with a mildly spicy, tangy dip that complements the fries perfectly, making it a delicious snack or accompaniment to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Sweet Potato Fries

  • 4 sweet potatoes or yams
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Kosher salt, to taste

Chipotle Lime Dipping Sauce

  • 1 1/4 cups mayonnaise
  • 1/2 lime, juiced
  • 1 teaspoon ground chipotle powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dipping sauce: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, lime juice, chipotle powder, chili powder, paprika, cumin, and garlic powder. Mix well until all spices are evenly incorporated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
  2. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the fries.
  3. Cut and season the sweet potatoes: Peel if desired, then slice the sweet potatoes into long sticks resembling fries. Place them in a large Ziploc bag and add just enough vegetable oil to lightly coat all pieces. Seal the bag and toss to distribute the oil evenly on all fries.
  4. Bake the fries: Spread the coated sweet potato sticks evenly on a cookie sheet in a single layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, turning the fries periodically to ensure even browning and crispiness.
  5. Season and serve: Once the fries turn lightly browned and crispy, remove them from the oven and sprinkle kosher salt over them to taste. Serve immediately alongside the chilled chipotle lime dipping sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • The chipotle lime dip has a mild smoky kick that pairs perfectly with the natural sweetness of the fries.
  • For extra crispiness, spread the fries out so they aren’t touching too much on the baking sheet.
  • You can adjust the spice levels in the dip by adding more chipotle powder for heat or more lime juice for tanginess.
  • Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor in the dipping sauce.
  • These fries are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven but can be reheated in the oven to maintain crispiness.
