Description

This Spiced Maple Citrus Pear Mocktail is a cozy and refreshing non-alcoholic drink featuring sweet D’Anjou pears, zesty citrus, warming spices, and rich pure maple syrup. Perfect for any occasion, this vegan mocktail offers a sweet and tangy flavor profile with a hint of spice, topped with ginger beer and optionally garnished with rosemary sprigs.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 medium D’Anjou pears, sliced (skin on)
  • 1 orange, sliced (skin on)
  • 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ground allspice
  • 2 cups filtered water

Additional Ingredients

  • 1 orange, freshly-squeezed
  • 2 Tbsps pure maple syrup
  • pinch of ground cinnamon
  • ginger beer, for topping
  • Rosemary sprigs, optional

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fruit and Spices: Slice the D’Anjou pears and one orange with the skin on. Measure out the ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
  2. Sauté Pears and Orange: Heat 1 Tbsp of extra virgin olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the sliced pears and orange and sauté for about 5 minutes until they start to soften and release their juices.
  3. Add Maple Syrup and Spices: Stir in 1/4 cup pure maple syrup, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg, and 1/2 tsp ground allspice. Cook for another 2 minutes, stirring frequently to coat the fruit with the spices and syrup.
  4. Add Water and Simmer: Pour in 2 cups of filtered water and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 15 minutes to infuse the flavors.
  5. Strain and Cool: Remove the saucepan from heat and strain the spiced pear and citrus mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a container, pressing the solids to extract maximum flavor. Discard solids and allow the liquid to cool to room temperature.
  6. Mix Mocktail Base: In a serving jug, combine the strained liquid with the freshly squeezed juice of 1 orange, 2 tablespoons of pure maple syrup, and a pinch of ground cinnamon. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  7. Serve: Fill glasses with the mocktail base, then top each with ginger beer to add fizz. Stir gently to combine.
  8. Garnish and Enjoy: Optionally, garnish each glass with a fresh rosemary sprig for an aromatic touch. Serve immediately and enjoy your Spiced Maple Citrus Pear Mocktail.

Notes

  • This mocktail is best served chilled or over ice for a refreshing taste.
  • For an alcoholic version, add a splash of bourbon or spiced rum to complement the flavors.
  • If ginger beer is not available, ginger ale can be used as a milder substitute.
  • Use organic fruits if possible, especially since the peels are included in the preparation.
  • The spiced syrup can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 3 days for convenience.
