Description

Mississippi Sin Dip is a creamy, savory cheese dip loaded with ham, seasoned with Worcestershire sauce and spices, baked inside a hollowed French bread loaf for a perfect appetizer or party snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided use)
  • 14 ounces sour cream
  • 10 ounce can Rotel, drained (diced tomatoes with green chiles)
  • 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 3/4 cup chopped ham (divided use)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 16 ounce French bread loaf
  • 1 green onion, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350° F to prepare for baking the dip.
  2. Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, drained Rotel, softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup chopped ham, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined. Set aside.
  3. Prepare Bread: Cut the top of the French bread loaf into an oval shape. Slice down but do not cut through the other side, creating a hinge. Cut the top piece into chunks for dipping.
  4. Hollow Out Bread: Remove and hollow out the center of the bread loaf using your hands, saving the removed bread pieces for dipping if desired.
  5. Fill Bread with Mixture: Spoon the cheese and ham mixture into the hollowed-out bread loaf evenly.
  6. Add Cheese Topping: Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese on top of the filled mixture.
  7. Wrap and Bake: Wrap the filled bread loaf loosely with aluminum foil, ensuring the foil does not touch the cheese. Place it on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 45 minutes until heated through and bubbly.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven, unwrap foil, and top with the remaining chopped ham and sliced green onions. Optionally sprinkle additional red pepper flakes on top before serving.

Notes

  • Use nonstick aluminum foil or try to keep foil from touching cheese to prevent sticking.
  • The hollowed bread pieces can be used as dippers for extra breadiness.
  • For extra spice, add more red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Ensure cream cheese is softened fully for easy mixing.
  • This dip is best served warm straight out of the oven.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated gently.
