Description

This Honey Garlic Chicken recipe features tender, boneless chicken thighs cooked in a sticky, flavorful sauce made with garlic, honey, soy sauce, and a touch of chili flakes. It's easy to prepare with minimal ingredients and served best over boiled rice for a comforting and delicious meal ready in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 8 chicken thighs skinless and boneless
  • 2 tbsp cornflour (cornstarch)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter

Sauce

  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 110 g (1/3 cup) honey
  • 80 ml (1/3 cup) chicken stock
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce

Garnish & Serving

  • 1 tbsp finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes
  • Boiled rice, to serve

Instructions

  1. Coat the chicken: Place the chicken thighs in a bowl and add cornflour, salt, and pepper. Toss the chicken thoroughly to ensure each piece is fully coated with the cornflour mixture.
  2. Heat the pan: Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan or skillet over high heat until shimmering and hot.
  3. Cook the chicken: Add the coated chicken thighs to the hot pan. Cook on one side until golden brown, about 4 to 5 minutes, then turn over and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  4. Add butter and garlic: Add the butter to the pan and let it melt. Stir in the minced garlic and reduce heat to medium to prevent the garlic from burning. Stir gently to combine flavors.
  5. Prepare the sauce: In a separate bowl, combine honey, chicken stock, rice vinegar, and light soy sauce. Mix well to blend the sauce ingredients.
  6. Simmer the sauce: Pour the sauce mixture into the pan with the chicken. Increase the heat to bring it to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 4 to 5 minutes until the sauce thickens and the chicken is cooked through with no pink inside.
  7. Finish and serve: Sprinkle the chopped fresh parsley and chili flakes over the chicken. Serve the honey garlic chicken hot over freshly boiled rice for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Use boneless, skinless chicken thighs for tender and juicy results.
  • Adjust chili flakes to your preferred spice level or omit for a milder dish.
  • The sauce thickens as it simmers; watch closely to avoid burning.
  • Serve immediately over steamed or boiled rice to soak up all the delicious sauce.
  • You can substitute light soy sauce with tamari for a gluten-free option.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
