Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound 90/10 ground beef
- ¼ cup low sodium soy sauce or tamari
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon minced peeled fresh ginger
- 1 cup frozen peas
- Cooked rice, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare and heat skillet: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat to get it hot and ready for cooking the beef mixture.
- Cook ground beef mixture: Add the ground beef, low sodium soy sauce or tamari, ¼ cup water, brown sugar, and minced fresh ginger to the skillet. Use a wooden spoon to break up the beef as it cooks. Continue cooking and stirring until the beef is browned and the liquid has mostly reduced, about 8 to 10 minutes.
- Add peas and finish cooking: Stir in the frozen peas and cook for an additional 5 minutes, until most of the liquid evaporates and peas are heated through.
- Serve: Serve the gingery ground beef and peas over cooked rice if desired, to complete the comforting and savory donburi bowl.
Notes
- For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
- Adjust the amount of ginger to your taste preference for more or less spiciness.
- You can substitute the frozen peas with edamame or finely chopped vegetables for variety.
- Serve with steamed vegetables or a side salad to add freshness and color.
