Description

Crispy Tofu with Peanut Sauce is a delicious and easy-to-make dish featuring super firm tofu baked to golden perfection and tossed in a creamy, flavorful peanut sauce. This recipe is perfect for a quick dinner or a satisfying snack, combining crispy texture with a rich, bold sauce made from simple pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale

Tofu

  • 1 pound super firm tofu, dried and cubed
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Peanut Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted creamy or crunchy peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • Hot water, as needed for sauce consistency

Garnish

  • Green onion, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tofu: In a medium bowl, toss the tofu cubes with oil until evenly coated. Sprinkle cornstarch over the tofu and mix thoroughly, ensuring each piece is well coated. Rinse and dry the bowl to use later for mixing with sauce.
  2. Bake the tofu: Arrange the coated tofu pieces on a sheet pan in a single layer. Bake in a preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 minutes, flipping the tofu halfway through to ensure even crisping. The tofu should be golden and crispy when done.
  3. Make the peanut sauce: While the tofu is baking, combine peanut butter, sesame oil (if using), soy sauce, brown sugar, and lime juice in a small bowl. Add a splash of hot water and stir until smooth. Gradually add more hot water to reach your desired creamy consistency.
  4. Toss tofu with sauce: Once the tofu is crispy, transfer it back to the reserved bowl. Pour the peanut sauce over the tofu and gently toss to coat all pieces evenly.
  5. Serve: Garnish with chopped green onions and serve immediately while warm and crispy.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, air fry the tofu at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes, shaking halfway through.
  • You can use crunchy or creamy peanut butter based on your texture preference.
  • If you prefer a spicier sauce, add a dash of chili flakes or sriracha.
  • Using low-sodium soy sauce helps control the saltiness of the dish.
  • Ensure tofu is well dried before coating to achieve best crispiness.
