Ingredients
Scale
Burger Sauce / Big Mac Sauce
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 4 tablespoons pickle relish
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon white vinegar
- 1 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Tacos
- 4 flour tortillas, 6 inches in size
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- Salt and pepper, both to taste
- 1 tablespoon neutral oil (vegetable, canola, or avocado)
- 4 slices American cheese (or your preferred cheese on a burger)
- 1 small onion, diced
- Dill pickle chips
- Shredded iceberg lettuce
Instructions
- Portion the beef: Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions to prepare for taco assembly.
- Prepare the tortillas: Lay one flour tortilla flat on your work surface, then evenly spread one portion of ground beef over the entire surface ensuring full coverage.
- Season the beef: Sprinkle salt and pepper generously over the top of the ground beef on the tortilla to taste.
- Heat the skillet: Place a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and lightly coat the surface with the neutral oil.
- Cook the patties: Gently place the tortilla with the meat-side down onto the hot skillet and press slightly with a spatula to form a thin patty. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until a golden-brown crust forms.
- Add cheese and flip: Flip the patty, top it immediately with a slice of American cheese, and cook for an additional 1 to 3 minutes until the cheese melts and the tortilla reaches desired crispness, avoiding charring.
- Remove and repeat: Remove the cooked smash taco burger from the heat and repeat the cooking steps for the remaining tortillas and meat portions.
- Assemble the tacos: Spread burger sauce over the cooked patties, then top with shredded iceberg lettuce, diced onions, and dill pickle chips.
- Serve: Serve the smash burger tacos immediately and enjoy their delicious combination of flavors.
Notes
- The burger sauce can be made a day ahead and tastes best after 30 to 60 minutes of resting to allow flavors to meld.
- Using 6-inch fajita size tortillas is recommended; for smaller street taco sized tortillas, adjust meat quantity accordingly to make about 8 tacos.
- You can substitute the burger sauce with your favorite condiments such as ketchup, mustard, or plain mayo.
- A griddle is preferred to cook multiple tacos at once; a smaller pan may limit you to cooking 1 or 2 at a time.
- Store any leftover sauce in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- The sauce recipe yields a large amount; feel free to halve it if making fewer tacos.
- American cheese is used here, but feel free to use any cheese you prefer on burgers.
