Description

This Easy Italian Casserole combines a flaky crescent roll crust with savory ground beef, tangy tomato pasta sauce, and melted mozzarella and parmesan cheeses for a comforting and delicious meal perfect for any night of the week.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 package Crescent Rolls
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup tomato pasta sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F to ensure it is ready for baking by the time the casserole is assembled.
  2. Cook the ground beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion for 8 to 10 minutes until the beef is browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat thoroughly.
  3. Simmer the sauce: Stir in the tomato pasta sauce with the beef and onions and let it simmer for about 5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly, stirring occasionally.
  4. Prepare the crust: Open the crescent roll package and separate the triangles. Arrange them in a 9-inch pie plate with the pointed tips facing outward, pressing the seams together with your fingertips to create a continuous crust without holes.
  5. Assemble the casserole: Spread the beef and sauce mixture evenly over the crescent roll crust. Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the beef. Fold the crescent roll tips over the filling and top with the remaining mozzarella and the grated parmesan cheese.
  6. Bake the casserole: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Let it cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Press the seams of the crescent rolls gently but firmly to seal and prevent filling leakage during baking.
  • For a spicier flavor, add chili flakes or Italian seasoning to the beef mixture before cooking.
  • Allow the casserole to rest for a few minutes after baking to make slicing easier and to let the flavors meld.
