Description

Delightful and easy-to-make Caprese Skewers featuring cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, and miniature mozzarella balls, finished with a drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze for a fresh Italian appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Skewers

  • 16 to 18 (4-inch) wooden skewers

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes
  • 1 (12-ounce) container miniature cherry-sized fresh mozzarella balls (ciliegine)
  • 1 bunch fresh basil leaves (about 36 leaves)

To Finish

  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
  • Balsamic glaze, for drizzling
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Skewers: Thread the following onto each 4-inch wooden skewer in sequence: 1 cherry tomato, 1 fresh basil leaf folded in half if large, 1 miniature fresh mozzarella ball, another fresh basil leaf, and finish with 1 cherry tomato.
  2. Arrange Skewers: Place all assembled skewers neatly on a serving platter, spacing them evenly for presentation.
  3. Finish and Season: Drizzle the skewers lightly with extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze. Sprinkle kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper over them to taste before serving.

Notes

  • Use in-season cherry tomatoes and freshest mini mozzarella balls for best flavor.
  • If basil leaves are large, fold them in half to fit neatly on the skewers.
  • Balsamic glaze adds a tangy sweetness; substitute with balsamic vinegar reduction if unavailable.
  • These skewers are best served fresh but can be prepared a few hours ahead and refrigerated.
